Every week I answer queries relating to the ideal post-op bariatric diet; portion control; weight regain and food choice. One topic that crops up time and time again is the need for protein and how to achieve it. It never struck me as being too problematic until I saw the requests that also outlined how many have intolerances; some choose to go meat-free; some have lactose and gluten problems; and yet others just don’t like certain foods. But there are ways around this and so I present my 12 fail-safe additional-protein based foods which can really protein-boost and power your plate and so have a big part in your post-op bariatric regime.
These foods, as shown below, can all have a big impact on your daily scores either as a main meal ingredient or a snack item. These are in addition
to the main considerations we have covered before and can be seen here. Plus they are great to add to the lunch box or emergency supply box (stashed away in your car perhaps) for when delays occur see here.
You should be able to identify them but if not they are: eggs, nuts, yogurt, cold meat, protein drinks, cottage cheese, lentils, tofu, peanut butter, seeds, protein powder and biltong or jerky.
